Praise is a predominantly way to enter into the presence and engaging the power of God into our lives. No doubt, you too can get in touch with His power through the act of praise.

You do not have to be of any specific age to start praising.

An Old-Testament leader, Jehosaphat [2 Chron 20:18-20], was at the age of 53 when he led his army to praise, and winning the battle with the divine intervention (an ambush) by God.

There are 2 ways as mentioned in the Bible where we can enter into His presence: singing [Psalms 100:1-2], and thanksgiving [Psalms 100:4].

Let’s look more into the latter; on thanksgiving (or “thanks”).

On “thanksgiving” or simply the word of “thanks”

The word “thanks” in Greek is translated to the word “charis”, it is also where we have the term “charisma”. Further defining it will allow us to get the word “grace”; where we have sentences such as: we thank God for the grace that He has done for us.

In the Old-Testament (OT), thanksgiving is an action (extension of our hands).

In the New-Testament (NT), thanksgiving is an attitude.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit.
~ 1 Thessalonians 5:16-19 (New King James Version)

As we are now living in the days of the NT, we are encouraged to mix our prayers with thanksgiving. That’s right, do everything with thanksgiving.

Even in the days of Jesus, He showed us live examples on how God’s power was released time after time again when Jesus prayed and gave thanks.

Here’s a couple of examples you would have read in the Bible:

1. Multiplication of the 5 loaves

In [John 6:11-12], Jesus took the 5 loaves, prayed, gave thanks, and then distributed to everyone in the place! The multiplication happened at the moment He gave thanks.

2. Resurrection of Lazarus

[John 11:40-44] is another example where Jesus gave thanks prior to allowing God to create a public miracle. In verse 41, Jesus said these words “I thank you that You have heard Me”.

You choose to praise God not only for the good things that He has done (during the good times). In fact, you ought to praise God for who He is.

Praise is the response from our heart.

5 Power Praise Words Of Thanksgiving

In the Bible, there were 5 different definitions of the word “thanks”, and here they are in no given order:

Word #1: “Halal”

“Halal” means to loudly boast of God. Or cheer excitedly like how raving fans do so while cheering on their favorite sports team!

Word #2: “Yadah”

Throwing our hands up in praise! Do you know that our hands shows our personality? Like reading body language, we can see someone who is motivated by his actions of pumping his hands up in the air.

Word #3: “Tehilah”

This is when you say the praises of God spontaneously. He is enthroned in the praises of us.

Word #4: “Towdah”

One of the highest form of praise, where everything around seems so bad that giving our praise is likened to a sacrifice. It is the type of praise that is spoken out in the midst of pain and difficulties. It is during the time when emotions run dry and nothing is left to be happy about.

Sometimes such praises bring forth a huge change of events. Like how Paul [Acts 16:25-26] praised God in prison and a miracle happened. Which resulted in the creation of the new Philippians church!

Word #5: “Zamar”

Simply praise God loudly!

Praise is vocal, public, and loud! Mix prayer with thanksgiving, and you might get to see a huge change in your life.

Have you gave thanks with praises to God yet?
